![]() Playing as V I was able to launch three attacks simultaneously, lighting up the battlefield in magic energy. While Dante and Nero offer more up close and personal fights, V is more of a "control" character who uses his animal summons to do the work for him. His gameplay is the most unique of the three protagonists. V is introduced in Devil May Cry 5 and there's been a ton of talk about him already, and for good reason. I'm interested to see where the story goes. He's still bold and hardheaded, but he's more deliberate and cautious about things. ![]() The brash youngster now goes through plenty of existential crises and inferiority complexes that really fleshes out his character. While we're on the subject of Nero, it feels like the story of Devil May Cry 5 will focus on him more than the others, and his character has matured since his last outing. Whether you want to use your Devil Breaker to grab multiple enemies or ride it like a skateboard, there are some outlandish moves you can perform and try out. The Devil Breakers you can purchase in Nico's shop gives Nero some fun battle options, opening up his combos and giving players a variety of ways to fight. Nero was pretty simple to play as back in 2013, as you comboed sword slashes and gunshots. I've played segments of the game at conventions like New York Comic-Con and played the demo, but this session gave me an opportunity to explore more levels and play with the main protagonists.Įach character plays differently, and really expands DMC 5's gameplay to hammer home the chaotic nature of the action. And that depth comes from the varying styles of the three main characters: Nero, V, and Dante. My latest session with the game cemented the idea this may be the deepest gameplay I've experienced in this type of game.
